A CHRISTMAS CAROL.

([Mt. Vernon, N. Y.]: William Edwin Rudge, 1930). 171 x 110 mm. (6 3/4 x 4 1/4"). Two volumes.

Publisher's full green morocco designed by Frederic Warde, stamped in gilt, smooth spine with gilt rules and lettering, housed in dark green cardboard slipcase. Each volume with frontispiece portrait. Spines uniformly sunned to brown, covers with few natural imperfections to leather (appearing as a dark streaks), a hint of wear to extremities, contents pristine.

This is an attractive set of Dickens' perennially popular Christmas classic, apparently printed as holiday gifts for the friends of William Edwin Rudge. The Rudge family of printers included four generations with the same name; the present work was almost certainly printed by the second William Edwin Rudge, who oversaw the press in its heyday and worked with luminaries such as Bruce Rogers and Frederic Goudy.
