Pleasing contemporary calf, boards with double gilt fillet with floral cornerpieces, raised bands, spine gilt in compartments with elaborate starburst design, dark brown morocco label, marbled endpapers and edges. Frontispiece engraving of Stothard and numerous in-text illustrations. ◆Corners slightly bumped and worn, rear board with a line of sunning, both boards with trivial scratches, occasional mild foxing and light stains internally, one page with a very small tear, not affecting text, but despite these minor defects an excellent copy of this biography of the illustrious painter and book illustrator by his daughter-in-law, the notable novelist.
