This volume was assembled following T. E. Lawrence's death by his brother, who was his literary executor, as a final publication of Lawrence's uncollected and unpublished works. These include a diary Lawrence kept during his 1911 expedition to Syria, two essays, "The Changing East" and "The Evolution of a Revolt," the suppressed introduction to "The Seven Pillars of Wisdom," and biographical notes on the individuals depicted by illustrator Eric Kennington in "Seven Pillars." The volume additionally includes Lawrence's photographs from the Arab revolt against the Ottomans during the First World War; his involvement in this conflict is what made him famous as "Lawrence of Arabia." Archaeologist, soldier, and diplomat Thomas Edward Lawrence (also known as T. E. Lawrence and T. E. Shaw, 1888-1935) had a lifelong fascination with, and commitment to, the Middle East, and this volume follows Lawrence's devotion throughout his career. Through the writings and photographs here, we meet Lawrence in his many roles: scholar, diplomat, heroic storyteller, and keen observer. (ST19567-085)
