The present work is a collection of poetry from the author's first four publications, including his Pulitzer Prize-winning "At the End of the Open Road," as well as 12 new poems. Louis Simpson (1923-2012) was born in Jamaica and attended Columbia University before leaving to serve in WWII--an experience that greatly influenced the themes he explored in his work. The New York Times described him as a writer who "sought the poetry in everyday life, writing in a simple, unadorned style with specifically American settings. The poet and critic Edward Hirsch called him 'the Chekhov of contemporary American poetry.'" (ST20338-056)
